Toastmasters District 74, (Southern Africa), is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2011 Communication & Leadership Award is Yusuf Abramjee, Group Head of News and Current Affairs at Primedia Broadcasting and Chairman of the National Press Association.
The Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Award is made every year to a non-Toastmaster, who is resident within the borders of District 74 and who has made a significant contribution in the field of Communication & Leadership, and has performed outstanding service to his/her community.
As Head of Crime Line, and a founding member of the LEAD SA campaign, Yusuf has relentlessly promoted freedom of speech and the exposure of wrong-doings in our country. He has also encouraged individuals and communities to act as catalysts for change in our society by taking positive actions. Yusuf has contributed an enormous amount of energy and time to making our nation a safer, more positive place. He has used his Communication and Leadership skills to good use in this regard. The Crime Line initiative has resulted in over 1000 arrests and the seizure of over R36 Million worth of stolen property, drugs and counterfeit goods. The LEAD SA campaign is starting to change the fabric of our society, with citizens taking ownership of their individual positive contributions to our country.
Yusuf is a born news-hound and a man of action. He has repeatedly stood up for and spoken out on behalf of members of his community. He has taken their issues to the top authorities and has often produced results for them that they as individuals, would never have been able to achieve.
These actions, along with his deep integrity, have earned him respect across the socio-political spectrum. His position as Chairman of the National Press Association and his position within Primedia are all testament to his Communication and Leadership skills.
Toastmasters across Southern Africa are proud to have their name associated with such a fine Communicator and Leader.
