From Pietermaritzburg, travelling south towards Durban on the N3:

Shortly after the Hammarsdale turnoff, take the glide off left onto the M13 that runs parallel with the N3 for a little way.   At the first traffic light, turn left onto Kassier Road (signposted Assegay and Hillcrest)   Pass through the traffic light at the new Hillcrest Private Hospital and continue on to the T-junction.   Turn LEFT on to the R103, back towards Pmb. This road is called Old Main Road and will be signposted “Botha’s Hill and Valley of 1000 Hills”   Travel about 3km and now look out for a clearing with 2 buildings at the left hand side of the road one of which is Heidi’s Farm Stall.  The road to the hotel is off Old Main in a bit of a dog-leg to the left, at this point.  You will see the signpost (it’s quite small) for Chantecler pointing to the left down Clement Stott Road.   Follow the narrow twisty little road for about 2km down into the valley until you reach the gates of the Chantecler.  Follow the long drive past the back of the Chapel and through the lovely gardens, keeping to the right into the parking lot.

From Durban /Airport.   Follow the road signs to the N3 and Pietermaritzburg.  Continue along the N3 through the Marion Hill Toll Gate (R8-50) and continue a short distance until you see the Assegay / Shongweni off ramp.  Turn off the N3 and at the top of the ramp turn right.  Continue on to the first traffic light.  Continue straight on through the traffic light passing the new Hillcrest Private Hospital and continue on to the T-junction.   Turn LEFT on to the R103, back towards Pmb.
