Opportunity One – Assist the LGM to arrange the visit program for the Regional Advisor - Ted Corcoran, DTM PIP
The Regional Advisor advices, support and mentors the Cabinet Team here in South Africa and will be visiting South Africa in May 2012 to join us for the conference. The visit will entail a full program of events, meeetings, transport arrangements, media, etc. We need a highly professional program including media interviews, corporate visits and leadership workshops.

 

Opportunity Two – Corporate Leadership Summit (1 project - Jhb filled)
Toastmasters Southern Africa is in partnership with more than 20 corporate firms in South Africa developing leaders and more effective communicators. This project involves arranging a half day conference/summit for senior leadership of corporations in Johannesburg and a second in Cape Town. The dates for the respective events are still to be confirmed . These leadership opportunities will focus on the logistics of organising a highly professional event working closely with Cabinet.

 

Opportunity Three – District Sergeant at Arms

 

  • May not be a current District Officer
  • Coordinate logistics for district sponsored functions.
  • Room set up and break down.
  • Reading of District mission and/or invocation.
  • Maintenance of banner, flags, refreshments, timing lights and assorted disposal supplies.
  • Timer during District Executive meeting.
  • Attends all Conferences (travel costs will be paid), and Executive meetings.
  • Coordinates the parade of banners and parade of dignitaries.
  • In spare time serves as Cabinet herder :-) ensuring everyone is in the right place at the right time starting on time.
  • Custodian of District assets e.g. tracks holders of the trophies, checks for engraving, ensures flags arrive at Conferences, fix any breakages.
  • Acts as Awards Coordinator: calls for nominations, collates nominations.
  • Assists LGET and LGM at Halls of Fame i.e. direct the traffic.
  • Coordinates Cabinet's requirements at Conferences e.g. ensure DG's speech is loaded, assist at workshops presented by Cabinet.

Joe Garmeson Trust

Joe Garmeson was a very prominent Toastmaster from its early days in the 1950s up until the turn of the century.  He was active in every aspect of the movement and made a major contribution towards its growth and ultimate recognition as a district.

Joe passed away in 2001. He donated half of his estate to a trust from which three quarters of income should be used to subsidise underprivileged people in order that they benefit from Toastmasters training.

Club Coaching

Have your Toastmasters meetings dwindled down to just 12 or fewer members? Are the meetings boring and the same five people leading? Have you considered a club coach?

What is a club coach?

  • An experienced Toastmaster who volunteers to help another club in their area.
  • This Toastmaster is not a member of the club and they are not familiar with the club or its members.
  • This Toastmaster is typically working towards their Advanced Leader Silver award for Toastmasters International.
